Seven Johnson County Mayors Endorse Jerry Moran for U.S. Senate

Thursday, July 23 – Today, seven mayors from Johnson County endorsed Congressman Jerry Moran’s campaign for U.S. Senate.

Overland Park Mayor Carl Gerlach, Lenexa Mayor Mike Boehm, Leawood Mayor Peggy Dunn, Olathe Mayor Mike Copeland, Shawnee Mayor Jeff Meyers, Prairie Village Mayor Ron Shaffer and Mission Mayor Laura McConwell offered a joint statement endorsing Moran’s candidacy.

“Jerry Moran will be an outstanding U.S. Senator for Johnson County and the state of Kansas. Throughout his career in Congress and the state Senate, Jerry has developed a detailed understanding of Johnson County and its unique needs. He has a strong track record on key issues such as economic development, education and healthcare. We strongly endorse Jerry Moran’s candidacy for U.S Senate.”

“It is very humbling to have the support of these leaders who have meant so much to Johnson County,” Moran said. “I look forward to working with them so we can continue to make the state of Kansas the best place in America to live, work and raise a family.”

This endorsement gives Moran a strong boost in a key battleground county. Johnson County, a suburban area of Kansas City, is the fastest growing county in Kansas. It is the most populated county in the state and contains over 150,000 registered Republicans. The seven mayors endorsing Moran represent a combined constituent base of approximately 300,000 registered voters.

The endorsement from the mayors adds to the strong momentum of the Moran campaign. Recently, Moran outraised his nearest opponent by nearly $70,000 in the 2nd financial quarter. Moran has over $3.1 Million cash-on-hand and holds a commanding $1.7 Million lead over his opponent. Moreover, Moran is the only candidate in the race endorsed by current U.S. Senators, as Sen. John Thune (R-SD), Sen. Tom Coburn, (R-OK) and Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE) are backing Moran’s candidacy.
