Senator Richard Burr Endorses Jerry Moran for U.S. Senate

September 16, 2009 – Today, North Carolina Senator Richard Burr endorsed Congressman Jerry Moran’s candidacy for the United States Senate in 2010.

“Jerry Moran has shown tremendous leadership in the House – especially for the men and women who have served our nation with courage and valor. He has been highly effective on the House Veterans committee in improving health care and benefits for our nation’s finest,” Burr said. “Moreover, it was Jerry’s vision and leadership that helped guide legislation giving veterans a much-needed increase in mileage reimbursement for travel to VA hospitals. His dedication, knowledge, and passion for veterans’ issues will be a great asset in the U.S. Senate.”

Senator Burr was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004 after serving in the U.S. House for 10 years. In Washington, D.C., Burr has a reputation as a highly effective legislator and is a leading advocate for issues relating to armed services and veterans.

“I’m pleased to have the endorsement of my good friend Senator Richard Burr,” Moran said. “I look forward to working with him and continuing our strong commitment to the veterans across Kansas and throughout this great nation.”

Sen. Richard Burr’s endorsement of Moran’s candidacy follows endorsements from Senators Jim DeMint of South Carolina, John Thune of South Dakota, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Mike Johanns of Nebraska. Moran is the leading candidate for Senator Sam Brownback’s open U.S. Senate seat, and is 16 points ahead of his nearest competitor. Finally, Moran’s fundraising total is over $3.1 million, which is more than twice that of any potential rival.
