Senator Jim DeMint Endorses Jerry Moran for U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint endorsed Congressman Jerry Moran’s candidacy for United States Senate in 2010.

“I’m pleased to endorse Jerry Moran for the U.S. Senate. He is a principled conservative who has the character and courage to tackle the important issues our nation faces,” DeMint stated. “As he’s proven in Congress, Jerry will not buckle to the pressures of Washington D.C., but instead stand up and fight against wasteful bailouts, reckless spending, and illegal immigration. I fully trust that Jerry will stand with me against the irresponsible policies that endanger our great nation’s freedom.”

Senator DeMint was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004 after serving three terms in the U.S. House. In the Senate, he has established himself as a strong conservative leader – ranked as the most conservative member by National Journal and ranked number one by the National Taxpayers Union. Sen. Jim DeMint serves as Chairman of the Republican Steering Committee, which sets and guides its members’ conservative policy in the Senate.

“I’m very pleased and honored to have Senator DeMint’s support in my campaign for U.S. Senate,” Moran said. “His courageous voice in fighting the growth of government has been a source of inspiration for conservatives and Americans nationwide. I look forward to serving with him in the Senate as we work to get our country back on the path our founding fathers envisioned.”

Sen. Jim DeMint’s endorsement of Moran’s candidacy follows endorsements from Senators John Thune of South Dakota, Tom Coburn, M.D., of Oklahoma and Mike Johanns of Nebraska. Moran is the leading candidate for Senator Sam Brownback’s open U.S. Senate seat, and is 16 points ahead of his nearest competitor. Moran’s fundraising total is over $3.1 million, which is more than twice that of any potential rival.
