Sen. Jim Talent Endorses Jerry Moran for U.S. Senate

Follows Endorsements of Moran by six U.S. Senators

Today, former Missouri Senator Jim Talent endorsed Congressman Jerry Moran’s candidacy for United States Senate in 2010.

“I’m delighted to endorse Jerry Moran for the United States Senate.  His proven record of supporting small business, tax relief for working families and fiscal responsibility will be a great asset in the Senate.  I’m confident that he will work diligently to preserve the American dream,” Talent said. “Jerry’s ability to work effectively with members of Congress will allow him to achieve important policy goals, both for the people of Kansas and for all Americans.”

Jim Talent was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2002 and served for four years.   He also served four terms in the U.S. House.  In both chambers, Talent had a unique ability to work across the aisle to help pass important legislation such as comprehensive welfare reform, tax relief for working families, incentives for small business, and tougher methamphetamine laws.

The endorsement also provides a boost to Moran’s campaign in the pivotal Kansas City media market, as Talent is a highly familiar and popular Republican figure in a market that covers both sides of the state line.

“I’m pleased to have the endorsement of my friend Jim Talent,” Moran said.  “He is well-respected and has a proven record of getting things done in Washington, D.C.  Jim’s dedicated commitment to the people of Missouri is something that I greatly admire and will emulate through my service to the great people of Kansas.”

Sen. Jim Talent’s endorsement of Moran’s candidacy follows endorsements of six U.S. Senators, as Senators John Thune of South Dakota, Tom Coburn, M.D., of Oklahoma, Mike Johanns of Nebraska, John McCain of Arizona, Jim DeMint of South Carolina, and Richard Burr of North Carolina are all backing Moran.
