July 15, 2009 – U.S. Senatorial candidate and U.S. Congressman Jerry Moran announced today that his campaign reached a key fundraising benchmark. The Moran campaign surpassed $3.1 million cash-on-hand, shattering the $3 million cash-on-hand threshold.
Moran raised over $391,000 in the second quarter of 2009 – nearly $70,000 more than his opponent. Moran’s cash-on-hand balance is now an impressive $3.13 million, which gives him a $1.7 million lead over his opponent. The fundraising quarter clearly demonstrates a pattern of strong financial support for Moran’s candidacy and further strengthens his campaign coffers.
“Jerry is very appreciative of the tremendous amount of support he continues to receive from Kansans across all parts of the state. They’ve helped us reach over $3.1 million cash-on-hand, which is a key fundraising milestone for our campaign,” Moran for Kansas Campaign Manager Aaron Trost said. “In the race for U.S. Senate, Jerry Moran has a powerful campaign war chest that is already well-prepared for financing a full-fledged, comprehensive campaign throughout all of Kansas.”
Moran is the leading candidate to replace Sen. Sam Brownback in the U.S. Senate in 2010. Moran is the only candidate in the race with endorsements from current U.S. Senators, as Sen. John Thune (R-SD), Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), and Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE) are backing Moran’s candidacy. The only poll released by a Republican polling firm has shown Moran up by 16 points over his nearest competitor.
