Moran Battles to Restore Ethics in Washington
Earmark Ban Comes in Wake of PMA Earmark Scandal
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jerry Moran today announced his support for a ban on all earmarks, a policy the House GOP Conference voted in favor of this morning.
“Congress is spending at an alarming rate, undermining our economic recovery and burdening our kids and grandkids with crushing debt,” said Congressman Jerry Moran. “At a time where the competing visions for the future of our country are so stark, Kansas deserves a future Senator that has and will always stay committed to fighting Washington’s spending and ethics problems.”
The one-year earmark ban came in part because of the considerable ethical problems under this Democratic-led Congress, a Congress Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised would be “the most open, and ethical Congress in history.”
As USA Today reports today, the earmark ban comes in light of the ethical clouds created by the PMA defense appropriations scandal, Rep. Charlie Rangel’s resignation as Chair of the Ways & Means Committee and public outrage over new, out-of-control spending.
Congressman Moran has long fought for stopping out of control Washington spending and restoring proper ethics in government. That is part of the reason why he’s been endorsed by Congress’ leading advocates for earmark reform and restoring fiscal sanity in Washington including Sen. Tom Coburn, Sen. John Thune and Rep. Jeff Flake.
