Jerry Pledges Full Support for Mount Vernon Statement
Kansas First District Congressman and U.S. Senate Candidate Jerry Moran (R-Hays) signed today the Mount Vernon Statement, a document which calls for the country to return to Constitutional principles and that continued government expansion is not right for our nation.
“I enthusiastically support the Mount Vernon Statement,” Moran said. “We must return governing our nation to the principles of limited government, economic opportunity, true religious liberty and maintaining a prosperous society based on self-government.”
A broad coalition of conservative leaders drafted the statement, which represents viewpoints from fiscal, social, cultural and national security conservatives. The statement proposes several governing ideas based on conservative thought:
“I want to urge all Kansans who support my campaign to sign the document as well,” Moran said. “It’s important that as many people as possible show support for this effort.”
Moran is the leading conservative candidate in the U.S. Senate race in Kansas to succeed Sam Brownback, who is retiring. Moran has been endorsed by national conservatives like current U.S. Sens. Jim DeMint (R-SC) and Tom Coburn (R-OK). Moran was one of the first Members of Congress to sign the “Repeal It!” pledge to oppose a government takeover of our nation’s health care system, and he was one of only 17 GOP Members of Congress to vote against every bailout, “cash for clunkers” and stimulus package. Moran has a 96 percent rating from the conservative Club for Growth.
