Congressman Jerry Moran speaks to Americans For Tax Reform

Moran emphasizes strong support of Taxpayer Protection Pledge

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congressman Jerry Moran spoke to the Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) organization, which is a fiscally-conservative group devoted to reducing taxes and eliminating wasteful spending. In 1985, ATR was founded by Grover Norquist with the support and inspiration of then-President Ronald Reagan.

“It is an honor to speak to a fine organization like Americans for Tax Reform. I share their view that taxes should be simpler, fairer and lower than they are today,” Moran said. “I also stand with them on the need for fiscal responsibility. Runaway spending plagues Washington D.C and I will continue to vote against reckless legislation that endangers future generations.”

Earlier this year, Moran signed ATR’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge, which is a promise to oppose efforts to raise marginal income taxes on individuals and businesses. Moran strongly opposes tax increases and has signed this pledge in past congressional terms.

“I’m pleased to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge. While some in Congress are proposing tax increases, I will stand firm against such efforts,” Moran said. “A tax increase would be an irresponsible decision and have serious economic consequences. Just like President Ronald Reagan, I believe that tax reform is the pathway to economic recovery.”

The Taxpayer Protection Pledge reads:
I, Jerry Moran, pledge to the taxpayers of the state of Kansas, and to the American people that I will: ONE, oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses; and TWO, oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.
