Illegal Immigration

I have been a staunch supporter of securing our borders and stopping illegal immigration. As your next U.S. Senator, I want to play a key role in fixing our immigration system and halting our nation’s open-border policies.

Among the legislative proposals I have led in Congress are:

  • Sponsored H.R. 4088, the Secure America with Verification and Enforcement (SAVE) Act. The legislation would:
    • - Allow the Border Patrol to hire 8,000 new agents to help secure the border
    • - Require all employers to verify the legal status of workers
    • - Expand efforts to make sure our immigration laws are enforced
  • Opposed the DREAM ACT, which gives states the right to allow illegal immigrants to obtain in-state tuition from public universities.
  • Opposed the 2007 Senate Amnesty bill, which attempted to grant legal status to 10 million illegal immigrants.
  • Sponsored H.R. 4716, the Prevention of Unsafe Licensing Act, to prohibit states from issuing a driver’s license to an illegal immigrant.
  • Sponsored H.R. 997, the English Language Unity Act, to make English the official language of the United States.
  • Sponsored H.R. 4464, the Common Sense English Act, to protect employers’ right to establish workplace policies that require workers to speak English while on the job.
  • Voted for legislation that would end the practice of “catch and release” by requiring the mandatory detention of all illegal immigrants who are apprehended along our borders until they are removed.
  • Voted for the Secure Fence Act, which calls for the construction of 700 miles of double-layered fencing and other barriers along the United States/Mexican border.
  • Voted for legislation that makes sure only legal United States citizens vote in federal elections.
  • Voted to allow the United States military to patrol the border.

The United States cannot afford to have immigrants crossing our borders illegally and benefiting from the systems in place for legal Americans. I will continue to work for greater border security and a revamped immigration service in our country.
