Senator John Thune (R-SD) Endorses Jerry Moran for U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. – United States Senator John Thune of South Dakota today announced his endorsement of Congressman Jerry Moran’s candidacy for United States Senate in 2010.

“Now, when the stakes are so high for our country, Jerry Moran’s principled leadership and conservative voice are needed in the U.S. Senate.” Sen. Thune said. “Jerry will bring a much-needed vote of common sense for fiscal responsibility, fighting terrorism and deciding the future of our judiciary.”

Earlier today, Senator Thune was chosen as chairman of the Republican Policy Committee – the fourth highest ranking among Senate Republican leadership. Thune was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004, defeating Democrat Tom Daschle and becoming the first candidate to oust a sitting Senate Majority or Minority Leader in 52 years.

“Senator Thune works tirelessly for the people of our nation and South Dakota,” Moran said. “Senator Thune and I both serve on the Agriculture and Veterans Affairs committees of our respective chambers. I appreciate the opportunity to have collaborated with Senator Thune on these important issues and look forward to continuing that partnership in the Senate.”

Thune’s endorsement adds to the growing momentum of Moran’s candidacy and follows endorsements from Senators Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Mike Johanns of Nebraska. Moran holds a two-to-one advantage in fundraising over his nearest opponent and has a commanding 16-point lead in the last survey by a reputable Republican polling firm.
